    Cardamom is a spice made from the seeds of several species of small perennial plants belonging to the genera Elettaria and Amomum in the ginger family. Both genera are indigenous to the Indian Subcontinent, particularly Southern India. They are recognized by their small seed pods: triangular in cross-section, spindle-shaped, with a thin papery outer shell and small black seeds.
