Easy to grow in dry soil, houseleeks don’t need much watering and can be grown in walls which aids a little more variety in the kitchen. There are around 30 species of this little succulent and they get their common name from parts of Europe where they are grown on the roofs of houses. They also have the name ‘hen and chicks’ due to the initial rosette, which produces little offsets around itself and in this way spreads.
